How to Spend One Perfect Day in Paros, Greece

Situated in the Cyclades between Santorini and Mykonos is a quieter island, less known by many but offering the same crystal waters and hellenic charm. Although Paros is still somewhat off the beaten path, it’s best to travel in May or October to enjoy warm waters while avoiding crowds. If you only have one day in Paros, the following itinerary checks off all the must-see spots on this Aegean island.

How to Get to Paros

Paros is accessible from Athens or other Aegean islands via ferry or plane. Upon arrival via ferry, we rented a car for the duration of our stay. A car made it easy to travel around the island on our own schedule, although it’s doable without. There are public bus systems and ATV rentals that make the entire island accessible without a car. It’s important to note that ferries in Greece are rarely on time, and are sometimes canceled due to high winds – or in our case, employee strikes. If you only have one day in Paros, or are on a tight schedule, look into flight options for max reliability.

The Perfect One Day Itinerary

Breakfast in Naoussa

A day in Greece hasn’t truly begun until you have a cold frappe in hand. After grabbing a quick breakfast and coffee at a cafe, you are now fueled to spend a peaceful morning getting lost through the stucco streets of Naoussa.

Kolymbithres Beach

10 minutes from Naoussa by car, bus, or water taxi is Kolymbithres — a beach made up of sandy coves uniquely settled between rock formations. The water is crystal clear, calm, and shallow for meters. This makes the usually cold May water much more tolerable, and also makes this beach a great option for families.

When you get hungry, take a break from the sun under the pergola at the Kolymbithres Taverna, located just meters from the beach.

If you’re into water sports, swap Kolymbithres Beach for Golden Beach to paddle board or wind surf. I’m usually an active traveler, but there was something so special about Kolymbithres. I would personally recommend it over Golden Beach any day.

Michael Zeppos Sunset Dinner Cruise

If there is one thing not to miss in Paros, it is a waterfront tour with Captain Dimitris. They offer full day private or semi private tours from Aliki Harbor around the island and/or Antiparos. With only one day in Paros, opt for the three hour private sunset dinner cruise. This option departs two hours before sunset and sails to anchorage in a secluded lagoon. Take a dip off the boat, and snorkle in the crystal lagoon. Captain Dimitris and his first mate will have a freshly cooked seafood Greek feast waiting back on board.

Wander Through Aliki Village

Upon arrival back to port, finish your day wandering through the quaint fishing village of Aliki. Immerse yourself in taverna culture and pop into a local eatery. Reflect on your perfect 24 hours in Paros over a nightcap or Greek coffee.
