Relaxing New England Babymoon at Rhode Island’s Weekapaug Inn

When deciding between top babymoon destinations in the US, a New England babymoon had much allure.

To start, New England is a four season destination. Like so much in pregnancy, the timing of your babymoon is somewhat out of your control. No matter the time of year, a New England babymoon can be a special getaway. A summer New England babymoon will bring salty air to beach towns, while winter offers cozy vibes.

If you live in the northeast, there are also many relaxing New England babymoon destinations within driving distance. This is a huge benefit over flying, in both cost and comfort – especially in the third trimester.

Fall Weekend Babymoon in Rhode Island

Instead of following the leaf-peaking crowds north for a fall babymoon in New England, we found solace in a sleepy Rhode Island beach town.

I’ve always felt that there’s a certain allure to a beach town in the off season. When summerers and daytripers have packed up for the season, a hush falls over the town. The quiet serenity of the Weekapaug Inn set the scene for a peaceful and rejuvenating weekend away.

Staying at the Weekapaug Inn

The Weekapaug Inn is nestled in the western corner of the Quonochontaug Pond in Westerly, Rhode Island. The inn opened in 1899 and maintains its historical charm while offering tasteful updates and modern-day luxuries. With only 27 rooms and six suites the inn remains intimate, guaranteeing it won’t be hard to find a seat by the fire or poolside chaise.

Even in the off-season, guests have access to an array of amenities and daily activities. Staying at the Weekapaug Inn also gives guests access to the amenities of its sister property, the Ocean House. While the Ocean House may be better known for its iconic yellow facade and even-more-iconic celebrity neighbor, the Weekapaug Inn offers more of a laidback luxury.

The Weekapaug Inn is a Relais & Châteaux property, which brings both esteemed charm and service, but also a substantial price tag. Planning a New England babymoon to the Weekapaug Inn during the offseason will allow you to take advantage of seasonal offers and savings on nightly rates.

Getting to the Weekapaug Inn for Our New England Babymoon

From New York City, the Weekapaug Inn is a two and a half hour drive (pending traffic, of course!) or a three hour Amtrak train. From Boston, the Weekapaug Inn is an hour and a half drive or an hour and fifteen minute Amtrak train.

If traveling by train, take the Amtrak to the Westerly station, a 15 minute taxi or ride share from the Weekapaug Inn. Once at the Weekapaug Inn, guests can take advantage of the complimentary Volvo on a first-come, first served basis and reserve the car for the day or evening to explore the surrounding area.

Weekapaug Inn Babymoon Itinerary

We were doing a quick overnight for our babymoon in Rhode Island, so we left Connecticut early and stopped for breakfast at Sift on the way. During peak season, Sift has an outpost in neighboring Watch Hill. Since we were doing a fall babymoon, we detoured into their main location in Mystic, CT before continuing on to Rhode Island.

Check-in begins at 4pm at the Weekapaug Inn, so we head into Watch Hill to stretch our legs before checking in. By November the horses have long left the carousel and ice cream windows are shuttered. We walked along the quiet stretch of town, stopping in the few boutiques that remained open, and eventually continuing on to the Watch Hill lighthouse.

Upon check in, we were greeted with a welcome note and Weekapaug Inn onesie. From there, we took a beat before exploring the grounds and getting acquainted with all of the inclusive amenities. The complementary snack nook kept my pregnancy cravings at bay, and provided plenty of tea to cozy up with on the fall day.

The only thing on the itinerary was relaxation, and the Weekapaug Inn was the perfect New England babymoon destination to do just that.

Day One of Our New England Babymoon

  • Sip coffee and tea in Adorondak chairs on the lawn
  • Take a walk to the beach
  • Eat lunch over board games by the fire in the bar room (Clam chowder + Caesar salad + French fries = dream pregnancy lunch)
  • Partake in one of the Weekapaug Inn’s complementary activities, like a scenic boat ride (I’ll admit I didn’t have the energy to go clamming, which was also offered!)
  • Dinner at The Restaurant
  • S’more by the bonfire

Day Two of Our New England Babymoon

  • Start the morning with a complimentary yoga class at the fitness center
  • Breakfast at The Restaurant
  • Spend the morning at the Ocean House for a prenatal massage and spa day
  • Lunch in nearby Westerly, Rhode Island before heading home

Babymoon Spa Day at the Ocean House

The pinnacle of our relaxing New England babymoon came on Sunday. After a slow breakfast at The Restaurant at Weekapaug, we headed to the Ocean House for a spa day. We arrived early for our booked massages, which allowed us time to explore all of the spa amenities. For my husband, that meant the steam room. For me, I took my complimentary tea and on-theme reading to the all-seasons pool.

To no surprise, the Ocean House’s prenatal massage was exceptional. After emerging from an hour of pure bliss, I met my husband in the spa’s relaxation room. We shared a light bite and relished in the serenity before showering and hitting the road.

We left the weekend feeling fully relaxed and rejuvenated. The quiet fall weekend gave us time to unwind and connect as a couple before welcoming our baby in January.
